100 literary agents to contact

Literary agents are your entrée into the world of standard publishing, to acquisitions editors at Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, and other standard publishing houses.

That’s because most standard publishers do not accept unsolicited submissions.

A handful of imprints belonging to the major publishers do, but for the most part, you need a literary agent to get your book proposal onto the desks of standard publishers. (For a list of publishers you can approach without agents, see “15 Publishers Who Welcome Unsolicited Submissions.”)

Here’s a list of 100 literary agencies accepting submissions. I’m not recommending any of these agents, simply providing a list to help you get started on your agent search. (This list is current as of February 2025, but please note that literary agencies or individual agents may, at any time, decide to stop taking submissions for a while.)
